Forced on a long and arduous journey to the great Mayan capital, Jaguar Paw faces a fate of slavery or ritual sacrifice. In a desperate bid for survival and to return to his pregnant wife and young son, whom he managed to hide in a deep pit before being captured, he escapes his captors. What follows is a visceral, high-stakes chase through the jungle, where Jaguar Paw must use his knowledge of the land to outwit his pursuers.
