: Bruce must confront his father’s dark legacy and descent into madness.
(played by Eric Bana), a brilliant but reserved genetics researcher with a repressed, traumatic childhood. During a laboratory accident, Bruce is exposed to a lethal dose of gamma radiation. Instead of dying, the radiation unlocks a hidden side of his biology.
is a standalone Greek tragedy. It focuses heavily on the concept of suppressed father-son trauma and the monster that lives inside all of us. Comic Book Panel Editing:
| Movie Title | Why It’s Similar | Where to Stream | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | | The reboot with Edward Norton; more action, less psychology. | Disney+/Max | | Darkman (1990) | Sam Raimi’s tortured superhero with split personalities. | Peacock/Pluto TV | | A History of Violence | Also stars a repressed man hiding from his past (William Hurt). | Max/Paramount+ | | Spider-Man 2 (2004) | Ang Lee worked with the same VFX team; tragic hero dynamic. | Starz/Disney+ |
Watching it now (whether on Filmyzilla or legitimate platforms), the effects are charmingly retro. The Hulk has a distinct weight to him, and the desert battle scenes where he throws tanks around like toys remain incredibly satisfying to watch. If you can look past the 2003-era textures, the animation is actually quite expressive.
