: The story follows John Carter (played by Taylor Kitsch), a war-weary former military captain who is mysteriously transported to Mars (Barsoom). Due to the planet's lower gravity, he discovers he possesses superhuman strength and jumping abilities. He soon becomes embroiled in an epic civil war between warring factions, including the four-armed green Tharks and the human-like inhabitants of Helium and Zodanga.
