The series follows the story of David Budd (played by Richard Madden), a war veteran who suffers from PTSD and is struggling to adjust to civilian life. He is recruited by the UK's Directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 5 (MI5) to serve as a bodyguard for a high-ranking government official, Sophie West (played by Kelly Macdonald). However, things take a dramatic turn when Budd discovers that West is being targeted by a terrorist group, and he must use his skills to protect her.
