The Samsung SCX-4300 multi-function printer is widely reported to encounter a persistent scanner error (typically “Scanner locked” or “Device busy”) when used with operating systems released after 2018. This paper identifies the root cause as a USB timeout mismatch and a deprecated scanner lock command in the official driver. We present a patched driver solution for Windows 10/11 and Linux that restores full scanner functionality without hardware modification. The patch modifies the USB control transfer parameters and bypasses an erroneous lock-state check.
